LUCKY 39 Portable (2026)
Electronic sculpture, real-time data transmission, custom PCB, OLED display
LUCKY 39 Portable extends LUCKY 39, presented in Early Years Project #9: Actions Speak Louder? at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). The project began with the discovery of an anomaly in a video game's out-of-bounds coordinates—spaces that lie beyond the limits intended by the developers, where the system continues to calculate and render a world even though no player is ever meant to arrive. Because these inaccessible areas cannot be reached or recorded through ordinary gameplay, the artist approaches them as a digital archaeologist, using tools that reveal the game's underlying structure to survey, map, and understand territories that remain invisible to most players. LUCKY 39 Portable transforms those digital surveys into a sculptural object. The copper traces etched onto its circuit board are derived from maps produced during the artist's exploration of these hidden landscapes. Rather than functioning as a playback device, the work operates as a live terminal connected to the original installation, continuously receiving text and images transmitted in real time from LUCKY 39. Existing as a remote extension rather than a copy, it offers another point of access to a world that persists beyond the visible boundaries of the game.
